NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will host the 4th annual Chita Rivera Awards June 20. The end date for nominee considerations is May 1, and nominations will be announced May 5.

Nominations will be considered for outstanding choreography, featured dancers, and ensemble in Broadway and Off-Broadway shows which opened prior to the pandemic shutdown as well as in the 2021-2022 season. Additionally, nominations will also be considered for outstanding choreography in film.

The Awards celebrate dance and recognize choreographic excellence and achievement in honor of their namesake, Tony winner Chita Rivera, who has originated some of Broadway's best known roles, such as Anita in West Side Story and Velma in Chicago.

Broadway, Off-Broadway, and film each have a separate nominating committee that oversees the nominations. Broadway nominations are also passed through an award committee which will determine the final nominees.

The event is being produced by Patricia Watt and Joe Lanteri, founder and executive director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, and will benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation College Scholarship Program. Since the organization’s founding in 2010, it has awarded $4 million to more than 400 dancers.

Honorees for the Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theater Award, and Ambassador for the Arts Award will be announced in the coming days.
