Bedella, who won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for originating the roles of Warm up Man and Satan in Jerry Springer – the Opera and subsequently reprised that performance in the show's New York premiere at Carnegie Hall, was last seen in the West End as Billy Flynn in Chicago last year, and has also regularly toured and appeared in the West End as Frank 'n' Furter in The Rocky Horror Show.
Directed by Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge (who starred in the Menier's production of the Fierstein-scripted La Cage aux Folles), the production marks the play's first major London revival since it was first seen in the West End with Antony Sher in 1985.
According to press materials, the play "tells the poignant story of an outsider's search for love and acceptance, as drag queen Arnold fights for his place in the world and his right to happiness."
Also in the cast will be Sara Kestelman as Arnold's mother. Further casting is still to be announced.
