Javerbaum and Schlesinger, who authored the score to Cry-Baby, wrote "What If Life Were More Like Theatre?" as well as Harris' closing number, "There's No Time," which recapped the evening's events.
"What If Life Were More Like Theatre?" featured appearances by Tony Award winner Patti LuPone (pushing a lawnmower!) and "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
The song also gave viewers their very first glimpse of Broadway's next Annie – that was 11-year-old Lilla Crawford who stepped out on stage in full Annie attire. In April, producers announced that Crawford had landed the role of the red-headed orphan in the revival that will play the Palace Theatre beginning Oct. 3.
"Hold on, hold on! Leapin' Lizards Mr. Patrick Harris, don't be a downer," Crawford said entering the stage. "This is the Tony Awards and remember, the sun will come out tomorrow!"
Harris retorted, "Really, 'ya know you got a point little orphan know-it-all, but since you're not back on Broadway 'til next fall, why don't you go, you know, find your parents."
Orchestrations for "What If Life Were More Like Theatre?" and "There's No Time" were by Patrick Vaccariello.
The musical medley of past Best Score Tony Award winners was created by five-time Tony Award nominee Michael John LaChiusa (Giant, Hello Again, Marie Christine).
