News David Leonard and Annette McLaughlin Will Join Cast of West End's Matilda the Musical David Leonard will join the cast of the West End's Matilda the Musical, beginning performances July 3, taking over from Olivier winner Bertie Carvel as Mrs. Trunchbull, and Annette McLaughlin will join Aug. 21, taking over from Josie Walker as Mrs. Wormwood.

They will join Haley Flaherty and Steve Furst who have recently joined the Company as Miss Honey and Mr. Wormwood, respectively. Currently sharing the title role are Cleo Demetriou, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Isobelle Molloy and Jade Marner. Hayley Canham will also join the company in the role of Matilda full-time from mid-August. Leonard was previously seen in The Pitmen Painters at the National Theatre and on tour, and has appeared extensively in regional theatre at York Theater Royal, the Nuffield in Southampton, the Curve in Leicester, Salisbury Playhouse, Liverpool Playhouse and Derby Playhouse, amongst others. In London, he has also appeared regularly at Richmond's Orange Tree.

McLaughlin has been seen in Kneehigh's Brief Encounter in London and on Broadway, in the National's productions of Singin' in the Rain and Anything Goes, and the West End productions of Chicago, Lenny, Damn Yankees, Beauty and the Beast and Chicago. She has also worked extensively for the RSC, the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park and Chichester Festival Theatre.
