Chicago’s Gift Theatre has announced that Tony Award-winning playwright David Rabe has joined its ensemble. Rabe's play, Good for Otto, had its world premiere at the Gift Theatre in 2015, under the artistic direction of Michael Patrick Thornton.

In 1972, the American writer received a Tony Award for Sticks and Bones; he is also the recipient of Tony nominations for In the Boom Boom Room, Streamers, and Hurlyburly. Having a previous relationship with Gift Theatre, Rabe reached out to join the company after remembering a recent reading with the ensemble.

"I wrote Mike to see if the door was still open. He checked with the cocker spaniel who he said makes these decisions, and I was told he approved. I'm ready to go,” Rabe told the Tribune.
