David Rabe, a contemporary American playwright whose work is rarely seen on the West Coast, will have a production of his drama A Question of Mercy go up at the Pacific Resident Theatre on Friday, July 7. Directed by Matt Gottleib, the play will run through Aug. 27 in its Los Angeles premiere.Rabe's drama involves a man whose life has become a web of symptoms and desperation. Seeking assistance from a well-respected surgeon, he and the doctor devise a complicated plan that must be followed meticulously to relieve the patient's misery. In this tale of dignity, love and conscience best-laid plans are swept away by a force that proves greater than any specific human desire.
