News David Raimo, Cornelius Davis, Jessica Booth and Jason Nettle Will Head Cast of Florida Shrek Casting has been announced for the Alhambra Theatre's upcoming production of Shrek the Musical, which will begin performances June 11 in Jacksonville, FL.

Directed by Todd Booth with choreography by James Kinney, the production will continue through July 27.

Shrek will be played by David Raimo with Cornelius Davis as his faithful companion Donkey, Jessica Booth as Princess Fiona and Jason Nettle as Lord Farquaad. Rounding out the ensemble are Tarra Jones, Ryan Fitzgerald, Megan Sell, Ryan Sell, Jonathan Mousset, David Paul Kidder, Cory Escobar, Daniel Longrace, Jessica Dillan, Jessella Jarmillo, Katie Nettle, Michelle Barry, Jocelyn Geronimo, Salvatore Vieira, Jennifer Aubuchon and Nick Jones.

Shrek the Musical is "an entirely new musical" based on the story and characters from William Steig's book "Shrek!," as well as the DreamWorks Animation film "Shrek," the first chapter of the Shrek movie series.

Shrek has music by Jeanine Tesori, a book by David Lindsay-Abaire and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. The musical, studded with R&B, jazz, rock, power ballads and old-fashioned show tunes, received eight 2009 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning for Best Costume Design of a Musical (Tim Hatley).

The show "tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren't only found in fairy tales."
