News Davis Gaines Goes 'Against the Tide' Davis Gaines, the reigning Phantom in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera, has an album coming out this fall titled "Against The Tide" on LAP Records.

Davis Gaines, the reigning Phantom in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera, has an album coming out this fall titled "Against The Tide" on LAP Records.

Though Gaines can be heard on such albums as "Sitting Pretty" (New World records), "Broadway Showstoppers" (EMI/Angel), "Unsung Sondheim" (Varese Sarabande), "Lunch" (DRG), and "George and Ira Gershwin, A Musical Celebration" (MCA), this marks his solo recording debut.

The album is fully orchestrated and features new arrangements of some Broadway tunes, pop songs and some old favorites. Included are such showtunes as "Music of the Night," "Ol' Man River," "Someone Else's Story" as well as Barry Manilow/Marty Panzer's "All the Time." The album is an array of various music styles -- jazz, pop ballads and even country.

In the midst of his recording sessions, Gaines is currently rehearsing for three concerts that he will perform at the Morton Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. He is set to open the Dallas Symphony SuperPops Season and will sings some selections from his brand new album. Dates of performances are August 30, 31 and September 1. Gaines who joined the Broadway company of Phantom of the Opera in 1994 is said to have performed the role of the Phantom more times than any other actor (more than 1900 times), including his LA run. --By Katia Lundy
