Johanna Day, Matt McGrath, Samantha Soule and Stephen Barker Turner will star in Yale Repertory Theatre's upcoming world premiere of David Adjmi's The Evildoers.

Rebecca Bayla Taichman will direct the new work that is slated to begin previews Jan. 18 and open Jan. 24 for a run through Feb. 9 at the New Haven company's main stage.

"Carol (Day) and Jerry (Turner) celebrate their anniversary with friends Martin (McGrath) and Judy (Soule). But an evening of haute cuisine and expensive wine is cut short when Martin, no longer able to repress years of frustration, lashes out at the people he loves," reads a show description. "Soon, the facade of their pristine American lives shatters."

The cast features Johanna Day (Proof, Peter and Jerry), Matt McGrath (Cabaret, The Black Rider), Samantha Soule (Coram Boy, Dinner at Eight) and Stephen Barker Turner (Richard III, A Letter from Ethel Kennedy).

The design team includes Riccardo Hernandez (scenic), Susan Hilferty (costume), Stephen Strawbridge (lighting) and Bray Poor (sound). Michael Walkup serves as dramaturg. Walton Wilson handles voice work. Rick Sordelet provides fight direction, and Joanne E. McInerney is stage manager.

Adjmi's other plays include Stunning, Marie Antoinette, Caligula, Elective Affinities, Strange Attractors and the forthcoming Red Elvis, Bonifacius (or, The Do Gooders), Washington Square, and Broadway Boogie Woogie. Director Taichman returns to Yale Rep, where she staged the 2002 production of Iphigenia at Aulis. She has also directed the world premieres of Sarah Ruhl's Dead Man's Cell Phone, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Velvet Sky and Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius and The Scene.  Other credits include Menopausal Gentleman, The Taming of the Shrew, The Clean House, The Diary of Anne Frank, A Body of Water, Green Violin and Swimming in March.
