Dear Evan Hansen has brought in more than $1.5 million in advance sales since it opened, according to a report in Variety, with about $1 million of that coming in December 5, the day after opening night. Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson’s new musical opened on December 4 to a string of rave reviews. The industry website also states that the new musical’s current advance sales have reached approximately $10 million.

According to Broadway League’s box office grosses, the show brought in just over $800,000 the first week of performances, and continued to sell well throughout previews.

In addition to a positive critical response, Dear Evan Hansen has garnered strong word-of-mouth and a growing fan following. “We have a very large, vocal group of followers at this point,” Stacey Mindich, who leads the producing team, told Variety. “What’s remarkable is how engaged they are.”

Fan art for Dear Evan Hansen was used in the music video for “Waving Through a Window,” a song performed by the show’s star Ben Platt in the first act. Watch it below:

The new musical, about one student's struggle for identity amidst the chaos of high school, began performances at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway November 14 following an acclaimed, sold-out run Off-Broadway earlier this year. The show features a score by the Tony and Emmy-nominated songwriting team of Pasek and Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story), a book by Obie Award winner Levenson (Masters of Sex), choreography by Danny Mefford (Fun Home), and direction by three-time Tony nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then).

Pitch Perfect's Platt, who led the world and New York premieres, once again stars as Evan Hansen on Broadway. He is joined by Laura Dreyfuss, Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Mike Faist, Michael Park, Will Roland, and Kristolyn Lloyd.
