News Death of the Liberal Class, Based on Best-Selling Book, Opens Tonight Death of the Liberal Class, a stage adaptation of the best-selling 2010 book by Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges, opens its world premiere at Off-Broadway's New Ohio Theatre Jan. 25, for a run through Feb. 13.

The play is written by Robert Lyons and directed by Jerry Heymann. It stars Steven Rattazzi (Indecent, Galileo) with Jeanette Dilone ("James White"), Olivia Horton (Deliver Us From Evil), Melissa Murray (Playboy of the West Indies at Lincoln Center Theater), Justin Colón and Arthur Aulisi.

The dark domestic comedy tells the story of "a burned-out, left wing journalist [who] retreats to the family farm hoping to find peace of mind." It's about "liberal parenting, capitalist co-option, and losing (or finding) your edge."

Hedges was part of a group of New York Times journalists awarded the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for the paper's coverage of global terrorism.

The New Ohio Theatre is located at 154 Christopher St. in NYC.
