The New York Times reports that opera singer Deborah Voigt will star in the title role with Rod Gilfry, who is currently starring in the national tour of South Pacific, as Frank Butler.

About her new role Voigt told the Times, "This is sort of uncharted territory for me, which is what's exciting about it. It's daunting because it’s going into a completely new area, and certainly not one my operatic fan base is used to seeing me in. Yeah, I may be putting a toe over the line. But that's what's in me . . .Debbie Voigt is more than just Strauss, Verdi and Wagner."

Francesca Zambello will become the new general and artistic director of the Glimmerglass Festival (formerly the Glimmerglass Opera) following the 2010 season.

The original production of Annie Get Your Gun — featuring a score by Irving Berlin and a book by Herbert and Dorothy Fields — opened at the Imperial Theatre in May 1946, playing 1,147 performances before closing Feb. 12, 1949. Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton starred. The most recent Broadway production — March 1999-Sept. 2001 — cast Bernadette Peters as Annie Oakley. Peters won her second Tony Award for her performance opposite Tom Wopat's Frank Butler. The Berlin score features such classic tunes as "There's No Business Like Show Business," "They Say It's Wonderful," "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun" and "I Got Lost in His Arms."
