News Dee, Neuwirth and Cantone Chat with Bridge & Tunnel Crowd After Broadway Performances Ruby Dee, Bebe Neuwirth and Mario Cantone will take part in post-show talkbacks with Sarah Jones following performances of the soloist's new Broadway run of Bridge & Tunnel.

Tony Taccone (Continental Divide) directs the solo show which began previews at the Helen Hayes Theatre Jan. 12 and will open Jan. 26 for a run currently slated through March 12.

The series will focus on creating characters with actors as well as actors who have created one-person shows. The lineup for the Tuesday night talkbacks (to follow the 7 PM performances) will feature:

 

 

  • Actress, writer and producer Ruby Dee - Jan. 17

  • Tony Award-winning actress Bebe Neuwirth - Jan. 24
  •  

     

  • Actor-creator of the one-man Laugh Whore Mario Cantone - Jan. 31 Future talkbacks and guests will be announced shortly.

    Bridge & Tunnel plays to Jones' chameleon-like talents as she tackles over a dozen characters including a Pakistani accountant, a Chinese mother and a young Latina at a local community poetry slam. The characters in the work explore issues of assimilation in modern urban America, putting the New York melting pot to the test.

    The work originally began previews Feb. 6, 2004 at the 45 Bleecker Street Theatre and opened Feb. 19 to positive critical and audience response. The solo show recouped its entire investment of $200,000 within seven weeks of the first preview performance.

    Eric Falkenstein, Michael Alden and Boyett/Ostar Productions produce.the Broadway run. Actress Meryl Streep was part of the producing team for the previous Off Broadway run with The Culture Project, Allan Buchman, Robert Dragotta, Jayson Jackson, Michael Alden, Eric Falkenstein, Marcia Roberts and Tom Wirt Shafter.

    Jones has penned and performed works including Waking the American Dream, Women Can't Wait and Surface Transit. The actress also appeared in the Spike Lee film "Bamboozled," Off-Broadway in The Vagina Monologues and in her own Bravo television special "The Sarah Jones Show." As a poet, Jones has performed on HBO's "Def Poetry Jam."
