NEW YORK -- Rob Becker's Defending the Caveman, the one-man Broadway comedy show well into the second year of its run, is assembling dates for a 1997 national tour. Though no closing date for the Broadway show has been announced, a production spokesman said Becker will go on tour starting in January 1997.

Here are the tour dates announced so far:

* Fort Lauderdale, FL: Parker Playhouse, Jan. 21-26.
* Tampa Bay, FL: Playhouse, Jan. 28 - Feb. 2.
* Denver: Auditorium Theater, March 4 - 30.
* Columbus, OH: Palace Theater April 22-27.

Stand-up comedian Becker's ruminations about the differences between men (hunters) and women (gatherers), have drawn a strong word-of-mouth audience at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre, and now is the longest-running comedy currently on Broadway.
