News Des McAnuff Directs World Premiere of Tom Donaghy's Eden Lane at La Jolla, Aug. 12-Sept. 14 La Jolla Playhouse artistic director Des McAnuff directs the world premiere of playwright Tom Donaghy's Eden Lane for his southern California theatre, Aug. 12-Sept. 14. The show officially opens Aug. 17.

Eden Lane centers around a distressed woman who leaves New York City to live in her dream house in the suburbs. Once there, she finds things with her husband, daughter and gay best friend aren't as she had planned.

Two time Tony Award-winning director McAnuff directs a cast that includes Sarah Avery, François Giroday, Roxanne Hart, Rachel Jacobs, Peter Paige and Kate McGregor-Stewart.

McAnuff garners his Tony wins for his stagings of The Who’s Tommy and Big River. He has also helmed Broadway's How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and A Walk in the Woods.

The design team for Eden Lane features John Arnone (scenic), David Woolard (costumes), Howell Binkley (lighting) and Robbin E. Broad (sound). Shirley Fishman serves as dramaturg. The production also features music by composer Michael Roth.

Playwright Donaghy makes his La Jolla Playhouse debut with Eden Lane. His works Northeast Local, Minutes From the Blue Route and Boys and Girls have been seen on the New York stage as well as others at The Goodman (Chicago), The Magic Theatre (San Francisco), Philadelphia Theatre Company, Seattle Repertory and Trinity Repertory (Providence). The remainder of La Jolla Playhouse’s 2003 season includes the world premiere of Tina Landau’s Beauty (Sept. 16-Oct. 19) and the Aquila Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare's Comedy Of Errors (Oct. 21-Nov. 23).
