Classic Arts News Des Moines Metro Opera Appoints New Executive Director Des Moines Metro Opera has appointed Thomas Smith executive director. He will replace Jerilee M. Mace, who is retiring.
Smith brings more than a decade's experience in opera management. He was finance director at Cincinnati Opera for eight seasons, where he managed a budget of over $6.5 million and an endowment of over $15 million. Previously, Smith was director of administration at the Baltimore Opera Company.

He holds a bachelor's of business administration from the College of William and Mary, a master's of business administration from the University of Cincinnati, and a master's of arts administration from Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.

DMMO's founder and artistic director, Dr. Robert L. Larsen said, "Thomas Smith has most recently been associated with one of America's oldest and most prestigious opera companies. His vast knowledge of the management side of opera is coupled with a real passion for the art form. I look forward to sharing who we are with him and to learning of his vision for the company for the decades to come."

The DMMO's 34th summer festival opens on June 23 with a new production of Mozart's The Magic Flute.
