Classic Arts News Deutsche Grammophon Signs 17-Year-Old Violinist Nicola Benedetti Deutsche Grammophon has signed a six-CD deal with Nicola Benedetti, the 17-year-old Scottish violinist who won the BBC Young Musician of the Year contest in 2004.
According to the London Independent, the deal is worth more that Ô£1 million. Benedetti's first CD from DG, an imprint of Universal Classics, has been recorded with conductor Daniel Harding and the London Symphony Orchestra, and is due out in the spring.

Benedetti said that she had no intention of becoming a pop musician in the mode of such crossover stars as Vanessa Mae and the string quartet Bond. "I have not ruled out different types of music but I was trained as a classical musicians," she said. "I don't want to compromise what I do and what I love."

"There won't be any wet T-shirts or club DJ remixes," added Mark Wilkinson, the head of Universal Classics.
