Paul Lucas Productions and Richard Jordan Productions bring the pair's Robot/Lion Tour 2010, billed as a fusion of pop-punk/electro-clash and comedy, to Greenwich Village late nights June 23-27 and Monday evening June 28. Embraced by fans of such pop-culture music/comedy shows as "This Is Spinal Tap," "The Flight of the Conchords" and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Die Roten Punkte is an international award-winning hit of the Edinburgh, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto and Spoleto Festivals.
The duo's songs "are ridiculously infectious and their live show is one of the most irreverent and hilarious gigs on the scene today," according to the presenters.
The duo is explained this way: "Things have not always been easy for the Rots. After being orphaned at a young age (their parents were killed by a lion or a train, depending on which sibling's story you believe), the pair scraped by in squats in Kreutzberg and became homeless in Amsterdam. But after a baptism by fire (started by one of Astrid's cigarettes) in the underground rock scene of Berlin, they have clawed their way to European fame in true punk rock tradition."
Die Roten Punkte's recent awards include Best Production – Montreal Fringe; Best Production (Cabaret) - Green Room, Melbourne; Best of Fest Winnipeg Fringe; Most Outstanding Production – Ottawa Fringe; Best Comedy – Victoria Fringe and a Total Theatre Award nomination (U.K.).
Performances will run at Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) Wednesday to Saturday at 10 PM and (Monday) June 28 at 8 PM — no performance Sunday. Tickets are $35. For tickets, visit www.smarttix.com, call (212) 868-4444, or visit the Barrow Street Theatre.
