The contemporary-set production – under the direction of Erica Schmidt – marks the first theatrical collaboration between Schmidt and her husband, Dinklage. Anton Chekhov's classic story officially opens July 11 and will continue through July 20. "It's interesting having Pete play Vanya," Schmidt said in a statement. "It makes lines that usually pass unnoticed or seem antiquated pop in a way that I think is dangerous and timely. For example, Dr. Ástrov often uses the word 'freak' – 'people are freaks,' and 'I must have sounded like a freak.' Or '[Vanya,] you're a freak, you know that? I used to think freaks were sick but now I've changed my mind. Now I think being a freak is the normal human condition.' It makes us really look at ourselves and our perception of this Vanya!"

Joining Dinklage in the Chekhov work are Ritchie Coster (Astov), Lynn Cohen (Marina), Robert Hogan (Professor Alexander Serebriakov), Taylor Schilling (Yelena), Mandy Siegfried (Sonya), Kate Skinner (Maria Vasilyeva), Robert Langdon Lloyd (Telegin "Waffles") and Kevin Orton (Hired Man).

Dinklage is known for his screen roles in "The Station Agent," "Nip/Tuck," "Death at a Funeral," "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and "Elf." His stage roles include Richard III at the Public as well as Things We Want and Evolution.

On July 13 Bard will host a post-performance discussion with Uncle Vanya director Schmidt and members of the cast.
