The musical began previews Oct. 14, 2013, and officially opened Nov. 4. Upon closing, Disaster!, which runs in repertory with other shows, played 11 previews and 86 performances.
Presented by Mary J. Davis, the musical was written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick with direction by Plotnick and choreography by Denis Jones.
"It’s 1979 and New York City’s hottest partiers are blowing out their feathered hair and putting on their best polyester threads and platform shoes to head to the grand opening of the Barracuda, Manhattan's first floating casino and discotheque," according to press notes. "Little do they know that their night of boogie fever will turn into a . . . Disaster!"
The cast currently features Max Crumm, Charity Dawson, Matt Farcher, Tom Riis Farrell, Judy Gold, David Hibbard, Sarah Litzsinger, Maggie McDowell, Seth Rudetsky, Jennifer Simard and Jonah Verdon. Playing multiple roles in the ensemble are Sherz Aletaha, Kristy Cavenaugh and Saum Eskandani. Drew Geraci and Ashanti J’Aria are the company swings.
The production has set and lighting design by Josh Iacovelli, costume design by Brian Hemesath and sound design by A&L Sound Partners. Larry Pressgrove is the music director, and Steve Marzullo is the music supervisor. Drew Geraci is the associate director and associate choreographer. Jeff Davolt is the production stage manager, and Jeremy Geller is the assistant stage manager.
