News Disney Channel's "High School Musical 2" to Air in August; Original to Skate "On Ice" Disney Channel's original movie musical sequel "High School Musical 2" is slated to air in August, according to reports.

Disney Channel Worldwide president of entertainment Gary Marsh revealed the plans at the Television Critics Association Tour, according to Multichannel News.

Original stars Zac Efron (Troy), Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella), Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan), Corbin Bleu (Chad) and Monique Coleman (Taylor) will all return for the sequel, which will be set during the teens' summer vacation and revolve around a country club concert.

Kenny Ortega ("Newsies"), who both directed and choreographed the original film, will return for the sequel, which will be penned by writer Peter Barsocchini.

Disney Channel is offering a way for online visitors to have input on parts of the show. Fans will get to decide what will be written on the chalkboard and on Chad's shirt on the last day of school, which skateboarding trick Troy will teach Gabriella, the type of sandwich he will make for her at a picnic, Sharpay's favorite summer drink and pastry, the title of Ryan's summer book, the accessory on Sharpay's golf cart, the University of Albuquerque's mascot and which "Hannah Montana" star should make a cameo.

The teen tuner has already spawned sing-along, dance-along and pop-up editions, two versions of the soundtrack, two DVD versions, two stage versions, a concert tour and a sequel (among other things in the works including a book series and theme park attraction). Now comes news that an ice show is being developed with Feld Entertainment. "For the U.S., we're currently working with Kenneth Feld on an exciting idea to produce a celebration of 'High School Musical' that would include ice skating, but a different take than we've done with 'Disney on Ice' in the past. If we can make it happen – and things are moving fast – the show would be able to reach nearly every major U.S. market next season."
