News Disney's Beauty and the Beast Is Headed to India (Video) Disney India has announced that, beginning in Oct. 2015, the musical Beauty and the Beast will be making its way to the stage in India. The show, helmed by an Indian creative team, will incorporate both Western and Indian influences.

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a young woman in provincial France, who encounters a young prince who has been transformed into a Beast by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, his curse will end and he will be transformed back into a prince. However, time is running out, and if the Beast does not learn his lesson, he will be doomed for all eternity.

In a statement, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Managing Director of Disney India, said, "At Disney India, we are always thinking of ways in which to bring our audiences truly memorable world class entertainment experiences, and this pioneering effort to locally produce one of our most beloved Broadway musicals, is another example of that ongoing effort. Beauty and the Beast is a story that has resonated with millions of fans from around the world and we are sure it will do so in India as well."

Beauty and the Beast will be directed by Vikranth Pawar, with musical direction by Lesle Lewis and choreography by Terence Lewis. The cast includes more than 100 Indian musical theatre performers. The show will be performed in English.

The 1994 Broadway production was based on the Oscar-nominated 1991 animated Disney film of the same title, and uses the Alan Menken/Howard Ashman score, with some added songs. Beauty and the Beast has been performed in 28 countries. There are currently four productions of the show playing around the world, including tours in North America, Japan, and Germany. Beauty and the Beast has been individually licensed for performance by more than 6,000 theatres.

Beauty and the Beast will play in Mumbai Oct. 23 – 25, and in Delhi Dec. 18 – 20.
