Now that D'oh has found a place in the Oxford English Dictionary, have the Simpsons gone all hoity-toity, aspiring to William Shakespeare's level? Actually, long before the OED accepted Homer's infamous pop phrase, there existed Rick Miller's Machomer: The Simpsons Do Macbeth. The Canadian hit is returning to Toronto's Queens Quay Centre July 30-Sept. 8 in the Premiere Dance Theatre. Machomer is "85% Shakespeare" with Homer playing Macbeth, Marge as Lady Macbeth and cameos from 50 favorite residents of Springfield, transforming one of Shakespeare's bloodiest meditations on ambition and greed into a one-man comedy tour-de-force.
Miller's other credits include Art?, babaloo&ganoosh, Slightly Bent and voice work on "Mona the Vampire" and "Turtle Island." He most recently appeared in the Soulpepper Theatre's production of Present Laughter.
MacHomer runs in repertory with La Ronde. Tickets are $25. For reservation, call (416) 973-4000. MacHomer is on the web at http://www.machomer.com.
