Classic Arts News Doina Dimitriu Replaces Fiorenza Cedolins as Chicago Lyric's Tosca Soprano Fiorenza Cedolins has dropped out of the Lyric Opera of Chicago's upcoming production of Puccini's Tosca for medical reasons, the company announced. Cedolins was to have made her Lyric debut in the opera's title role.
Doina Dimitriu will replace Cedolins in nine performances between January 31 and March 1; Aprile Milo sings Tosca on February 4, 14, and 24 as previously announced.

Dimitriu won the Hariclea Darcl_e vocal competition in her native Romania in 1997 and has since performed at La Scala, the Royal Opera, the Spoleto Festival, and Santa Fe Opera.

The production also stars Samuel Ramey as Scarpia; Neil Shicoff and Carlo Ventre alternate as Cavaradossi. Bruno Bartoletti is the conductor. The staging, directed by John Cox, originated at the Royal Opera.
