Signature Theatre's 2024-2025 season will boast a lineup of plays from acclaimed playwrights, including the culmination of the residencies of Dominique Morisseau and Sarah Ruhl, the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's newest play, and a developmental presentation from resident Melis Aker.

The developmental presentation of Aker's Fish will be offered in September. The new work from Aker, the company's inaugural LaunchPad Resident, will be directed by Tatiana Pandiani. The play follows a British-Turkish teen in 2016 London embarking on a mission to confront the unresolved disappearance of her brother...by catfishing ISIS with her best friend. Aker and Pandiani were featured in the Playbill Songwriter Series last year.

The world premiere of Dominique Morisseau's Bad Kreyol will also arrive in the fall, with direction by Tiffany Nichole Greene. Morisseau completes her residency with the work, which centers on Simone, a first generation Haitian American, and her cousin Gigi, Haitian-born and raised, who reunite to honor their grandmother’s dying wish for them to reconnect.

Samuel D. Hunter's Grangeville will premiere in winter 2025. In his new work, two half-brothers separated by a void of thousands of miles and oceans of hurt tentatively reconnect over the care of their ailing mother.

The season will conclude in spring 2025 with Ruhl’s Eurydice. Directed by Lee Waters, the innovative reimagining of the classic myth follows Eurydice after falling into the underworld, where she reunites with her father.

Performance dates, casting, and further creative team information will be revealed at a later date.

The forthcoming season will mark Artistic Director Paige Evans' final season with the company. In a statement Evans had this to say about her upcoming ninth season: “It’s poignant to depart at the same time that Sarah and Dominique are completing their extraordinary residencies. It’s been such a pleasure, and such a moving experience, to spend this extended time with their inimitable writing—Sarah’s transcendent, poetic theatre, where anything feels possible, Dominique's piercing insight, the depth of her characters, the acuity of her dialogue. To guarantee playwrights like them, so essential to American theatre, a creative home has been the highlight of my work at Signature. I cannot wait to see what emerges from Melis’ LaunchPad residency, beginning with our presentation this season of her daring and moving play Fish, and to see her star rising. And Sam’s writing continues to offer such exquisite variations on a theme and a place; with every play, he further opens up his playwriting practice, the possibilities of the stage, and the ways we understand our country and world. It’s a season of so many artistic highs.”
