News Donmar Warehouse Planning Shepard, Hampton and Ibsen With the new Donmar Warehouse season soon to be announced, the Daily Mail newspaper has leaked a few tidbits. And, like the Donmar’s Islington rival, the Almeida, Sam Shepard is on the menu.

Next at the Donmar, Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter will star in Schiller’s Mary Stuart with Phyllida Lloyd to direct (this staging had already been announced). The show comes shortly after the Donmar’s boss, Michael Grandage, had a hit with another Schiller, Don Carlos, which he brought down to London from Sheffield. After that, Christopher Hampton’s The Philanthropist gets a revival, starring Simon Russell Beale. That will start in September.

And, Kathy Burke will direct Shepard’s Gods of Hell. Burke is noted as both an actress (on screen as well as stage) and a director. Grandage – once he’s got the Donmar’s Guys and Dolls starring (Ewan McGregor) off the ground in the West End – will turn his attention to Ibsen’s The Wild Duck at some point in the season.

Details are sketchy as yet, but all will be revealed, promises the Donmar, shortly.
