Murphy's illness arrived one day after the revival began previews on Nov. 5. After her physician advised her not to perform, producers Roger Berlind and Barry and Fran Weissler canceled the Nov. 6-9 performances while understudy Linda Mugleston boned up on the role. Mugleston gave her first performance Nov. 11. Murphy resumed her duties two days later, but had Mugleston spell for her during the Nov. 15-16 weekend evening performances.

Berlind told Variety that Wonderful Town will open as scheduled on Nov. 23. Murphy is expected to perform at all performances leading up to the opening.

The production marks the first Broadway revival of the 1953 Bernstein Comden-Green musical and the Broadway directorial debut of choreographer Kathleen Marshall.
