Dorothy Fields Forever, a celebration of her lyrics, is currently playing at Jermyn Street Theatre.
Acknowledged - by a range of stars from Cole Porter to Stephen Sondheim - as one of the greatest lyricists of the twentieth century, Dorothy Fields (1905-1974), wrote the book and/or lyrics for 19 Broadway musicals and nearly five hundred songs, as well as numerous movies.
The first female lyricist to win an Oscar, her work deserves greater public recognition that it currently has, and this show at Jermyn Street is a welcome reminder of her creation of classic songs such as "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "On the Sunny Side of the Street," "A Fine Romance" and "Big Spender."
