The resident production is presented in partnership with New York's The Acting Company, which commissioned the script. Opening is March 30. Performances continue to April 24. The cast features Atlanta actor David de Vries and New Yorkers Jimonn Cole, Adam Green, Julie Jesnick, Ron Cephas Jones, Randall Newsome, Roslyn Ruff, John Sierros, Henry Stram and Andrew Weems. Four of the actors are alumni of The Acting Company. The Acting Company is recognized as the leading classical touring company in the United States.

According to Alliance, "This new and powerful play reinforces important themes of humanity, compassion and hope woven into the story of a deaf and mute man who becomes the confidante to a group of lonely souls. Powerful emotions trigger a search for understanding and compassion for the man and this small group of isolated individuals. Although the setting is Georgia in the 1930s, the enduring messages cross all boundaries of geography, generations, and time. Through the power of live theatre, the audience experiences the same powerful longing for connection found in the hauntingly beautiful classic novel by Carson McCullers."

Hughes is resident director at MCC Theater in New York and received Tony Award, Lortel and Outer Critics Circle nominations for work on Frozen.

Designers are Neil Patel (set designer); Michael R. Chybowski (lighting), Catherine Zuber (costume), David Van Tieghem (sound designer/composer).

Tickets range $15-$45 and are available at the Woodruff Arts Center box office by calling (404) 733-5000 or online at www.alliancetheatre.org.
