News   "Dreamgirls" Notches Another Week at No. 1 on Billboard Soundtrack Chart
"Dreamgirls" continues to dominate Billboard's Top Soundtracks as the release of the movie musical CD hits its seventh consecutive week atop the countdown.

Featuring stars Beyoncé Knowles, Anika Noni Rose and Jennifer Hudson as the title trio, the album stays in the No. 1 position on the Top Soundtracks chart (where the Deluxe Edition also charts at No. 9).

The album of the Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen score — released by Music World/Columbia — slides to No. 9 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and No. 18 on The Billboard 200 in its tenth week on the charts. ("Dreamgirls" had previously topped the latter chart for two weeks.)

Over on the Top Cast Album chart, the original cast recording of the Broadway musical — featuring Loretta Devine, Jennifer Holliday and Sheryl Lee Ralph — still enjoys its rebirth. Both the Decca Broadway original 1982 release as well as the recent Hip O/Geffen special edition both hit their ninth week on the chart, placing at No. 5 and 14, respectively.

"Chicago" screenwriter Bill Condon directed and adapted "Dreamgirls," starring Jennifer Hudson as Effie, Beyoncé Knowles as Deena Jones, Anika Noni Rose as Lorrell Robinson, Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr., Eddie Murphy as James "Thunder" Early and Danny Glover as Marty. The film recently received eight Academy Award nominations.
