Presented by the Irish Arts Center and Abbey Theatre as part of Irish Arts Center's fall season, Maeve's House began performances Oct. 17. Written and performed by "Fair City" star Eamon Morrissey, it was originally scheduled to run through Nov. 3.

The one-man show portrays the life and work of Irish New Yorker writer Maeve Brennan. The play comes to the Irish Arts Center directly from its world premiere at the Dublin Theatre Festival.

"Maeve Brennan grew up in the south Dublin village of Ranelagh and later became a writer for Harpers Bazaar and the The New Yorker," press notes state. "While working on Broadway in 1966 the Irish actor Eamon Morrissey discovered he had grown up in the same house as Brennan and found that home brought vividly to life in her New Yorker short story 'Twelfth Wedding Anniversary.' This compelled him to learn more about one of Ireland’s greatest short story writers and to seek her out in New York."

The 16-week season runs through Dec. 21 and features music, theatre, dance, film, literary events, visual arts and children’s events from over 70 Irish and American artists.

The Irish Arts Center was founded in 1972 and is a New York-based arts and cultural center dedicated to creating and preserving a dynamic image of Ireland and Irish America for the 21st century.
