News   Edward Albee's Me, Myself & I, With Elizabeth Ashley and Brian Murray, Opens in NYC Premiere
Think of it as The Play About the Twins. The New York City premiere of Me, Myself & I, Edward Albee's new play that touches on some of his favorite ideas — parenting, children, identity, reality — opens Sept. 12 after previews from Aug. 24 in a production by Playwrights Horizons.

The play by the three-time Pulitzer Prize and three-time Tony Award winner (A Delicate Balance; Seascape; Three Tall Women; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia?) is directed by Emily Mann, who staged the earlier world premiere at McCarter Theatre. Performances play Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theatre (416 W. 42nd Street). Tickets for the limited engagement are on sale through Oct. 10. The production opens PH's 40th anniversary season.

The cast features Tony Award winner Elizabeth Ashley (Take Her, She's Mine; Barefoot in the Park; Dividing the Estate), Zachary Booth (Prayer for My Enemy at PH, "Damages," "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist"), three-time Tony Award nominee Brian Murray (The Crucible, The Little Foxes and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead; Obie Award for Albee's The Play About the Baby), Natalia Payne (New Jerusalem at CSC, Jailbait at the Cherry Lane), Stephen Payne (Superior Donuts and August: Osage County on Broadway; Me, Myself & I at the McCarter) and Preston Sadleir (Off-Broadway debut). Murray and Payne reprise their performances from the McCarter production.

According to PH, "In Edward Albee's Me, Myself & I, Mother (Ashley) can't tell her identical twins apart. But when Otto (Booth) announces his brother (Sadleir) doesn't exist, the household descends into chaos."

The design team includes scenic designer Thomas Lynch, costume designer Jennifer von Mayrhauser, lighting designer Kenneth Posner and sound designer Darron L West. Production stage manager is Alison Cote.

Albee makes his Playwrights Horizons debut with this production. Mann previously worked with Playwrights Horizons directing Miss Witherspoon (2005). Ashley and Murray are also returning to the theatre company, where she appeared in When She Danced (1990) and he appeared in both The Butterfly Collection (2000) and Mud, River, Stone (1997). Booth previously appeared at Playwrights Horizons in Prayer for My Enemy (2009). Me, Myself & I was commissioned by and had its world premiere at McCarter Theatre Center, opening on Jan. 18, 2008, and playing a limited engagement through Feb. 17, 2008.
