Classic Arts News Eifman's Anna Karenina Set for American Premiere in Boston Choreographer Boris Eifman's Anna Karenina will have its American premiere at the Cutler Majestic Theatre at Boston's Emerson University on May 18.
The new work, which debuted in St. Petersburg on April 1, is based on Tolstoy's novel and set to music by Tchaikovsky. The Boston performances, which run through May 22, are part of the Eifman Ballet's seventh American tour.

Eifman's troupe of "dancer/actors" was founded in 1977, as the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater, but Soviet authorities did not allow it to tour abroad until 1988. The group first came to the United States in 1998, and has toured annually since 2000.
