First aired in the U.K. in 1983, the TV film starred Elaine Paige, Eartha Kitt, Ann Reinking, Bobby Short, Hinton Battle, Frank Gorshin, John Moffatt and Lewis Collins. The television program featured the music of George Gershwin, Noël Coward and Cole Porter, including such tunes as "Anything Goes," "Puttin' On the Ritz," "Delovely," "Begin the Beguine" and "I've Got You Under My Skin." The film, according to the Dress Circle website, concerns "a 1980s photographer and advertising designer trying on clothes in a vintage clothing store [who] find themselves on a tour of 1930s nightclubs. They travel to Berlin, London, New York, New Orleans and Paris, taking part in the unique music and dance of each city. In each nightclub, George (Lewis Collins) finds the same woman — a woman he repeatedly falls in love with."
