The BBC-2 Radio program — presented by Ken Bruce, Richard Baker and Brian Kay — airs at 7:30 PM. Paige will perform songs from "The Essential Musicals," her new recording that is set to hit stores at the end of the month. She will be backed on the radio broadcast by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the direction of Martin Yates. Paige's new recording will arrive in the U.K. Oct. 23 on the Universal label. Produced by Mike Moran, the disc will include songs from Les Misérables, West Side Story, Evita, Grease and Chess.
Arguably Britain's most successful musical theatre actress, Elaine Paige has starred on the London stage in Evita, Cats, Chess, Anything Goes, Piaf, Sunset Boulevard and The King and I. She made her Broadway debut to much acclaim in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, and her recordings are numerous. Paige also appeared in the New York City Opera's production of Sweeney Todd, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance as Mrs. Lovett.
