The 3-D stop-motion film, produced by Focus Features and LAIKA, is penned by Chris Bulter and will be directed by Butler and Sam Fell. The film is described as a "comedy thriller" that follows a young boy named Norman who has the power to talk to the dead and must save his town from an attack of zombies.
"ParaNorman," set for release on Aug. 12, 2012, will also include the voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee as the title character, Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, Leslie Mann, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Bernard Hill.
Stritch was a Tony nominee for her performances in A Delicate Balance, Company, Sail Away and Bus Stop. She was most recently seen on Broadway in A Little Night Music and Elaine Stritch At Liberty; she won a Tony and later an Emmy Award for the latter.
Kendrick received a Tony nomination for her work in High Society, and Goodman's Broadway credits include Waiting for Godot and Big River.
