News Election Drama, Five Plays to be Written Within 24 Hours of General Election, Will Premiere May 8 Election Drama, a series of five new plays written as an immediate response to the U.K's next General Election May 6, will premiere May 8 at London's New Players Theatre.

Five playwrights, including Phil Wilmott (Once Upon a Time at the Adelphi, the Dick Barton series), Che Walker (The Frontline at Shakespeare's Globe and Been So Long at the Young Vic), Anders Lustgarten (A Day at the Racists at the Finborough Theatre) and Rex Obano (Slaves), plus one more to be announced, will stay up overnight May 6 and write a series of short new plays based on the events of election night. The plays will then be cast, produced and rehearsed in 24 hours, before being premiered in a one-off benefit performance, whose profits are being donated to the Hansard Society, an independent charity promoting political engagement and open government.

In a press statement, Will Young – producer for Supporting Wall who are staging the event – stated, "We're hoping to create a true moment of political theatre - immediate, edgy and raw. At the very least, it will be a more productive way to spend the election period than obsessing over Swingometers!"
