News Elizabeth Ashley Is Mrs. Warren Starting June 8 at Shakespeare Theatre in DC; Keith Baxter Directs Elizabeth Ashley plays the title madame in The Shakespeare Theatre Company's new production of George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession, directed by Keith Baxter, June 8-July 11, at Sidney Harman Hall in Washington, DC.

The role was originally announced for Dixie Carter, who died earlier this year. Ashley was last seen at STC during the 2001-02 season in The Little Foxes. Baxter's cast for Shaw's famous play about a daughter who discovers the secret of her privileged upbringing will also include Amanda Quaid as Vivie Warren, Ted Van Griethuysen as Mr. Praed, Andrew Boyer as Sir George Crofts, Tony Roach as Frank Gardner, David Sabin as Rev. S Gardner and Caitlin Diana Doyle as Ghost of Kitty Vavasour.

Opening night is June 14. Ashley recently performed on Broadway in August: Osage County. She starred as Corie in the original Broadway production of Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park and later starred as Maggie in a Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, directed by STC artistic director Michael Kahn. Ashley received Tony nominations for both roles.

The creative team includes set designer Simon Higlett, costume designer Robert Perdziola, composer/musical director Kim D. Sherman, sound designer Martin Desjardins, lighting designer Peter West, choreographer Karma Camp, and voice and text coaching by Ellen O'Brien.
