News Elizabeth Swados' Missionaries to Bow at Cathedral of St. John the Divine Dec. 3 Elizabeth Swados' choral drama Missionaries, about the lives, work and murders of four American churchwomen in El Salvador in 1980, will be presented at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 PM in honor of the 25th anniversary of the victims' deaths.

Retta Blaney is producing the event. Missionaries premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in the early 1990s. According to production notes, the composer used "the words of the women, taken from their journals and letters, and sermons of Archbishop Oscar Romero, as the libretto and lyrics, with music from the Mass and Latino culture woven throughout."

Swados developed the 90-minute work over a 10-year period.
