John, who was to perform in Hyde Park on July 12 as part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival, recently sought the care of doctors after falling ill during the tour. John (Aida, The Lion King, Billy Elliot) was diagnosed with an appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis.
He will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and is expected to resume his tour once he is fully recovered.
"Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013," a spokesperson for John said in a statement.
John and his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin were recently honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame with the Johnny Mercer Award. Tony Award winner John has penned the stage musicals Aida, Billy Elliot and The Lion King. He was among the producers of the Tony-nominated play Next Fall. John and Taupin collaborated on the short-lived 2006 musical Lestat based on the Anne Rice novel.
