Elton John gave an update on his The Devil Wears Prada musical in a recent interview on BBC2, sharing that it's "not ready" to come to London's West End following the work's recent world premiere engagement in Chicago. "It’ll be ready in about another year. We can’t get our theatre anyways."

The new musical, adapted from the popular 2006 film and 2003 novel of the same name, had been on the radar to transfer to Broadway this season, but John's comments indicate that further development is in the works before the production is mounted again. The interview was first reported by Deadline.

The Chicago premiere ran July 19–August 21, opening August 8. Read reviews here.

The work features a score with music by John and lyrics by Shaina Taub (Suffs), and a book by Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only). Tony winner Beth Leavel and Taylor Iman Jones led the Chicago run as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs, respectively, starring alongside Javier Muñoz (Hamilton, In the Heights) as Nigel Owens, Christiana Cole as Lauren, Megan Masako Haley (Wicked, Mean Girls) as Emily Charlton, Tiffany Mann (Be More Chill, Waitress) as Kayla, Michael Tacconi (The Cher Show) as Nate Angstrom, and Christian Thompson (Ain’t Too Proud) as Christian Thompson.

The story follows the fictional Runway Magazine, run by the ruthlessly exacting Miranda Priestly, and Andy Sachs, who starts her career there as Priestly's assistant.

Anna D. Shapiro was at the helm for the premiere, leading a creative team that also included music supervisor Nadia DiGiallonardo (Waitress), choreographer James Alsop (Beyoncé's "Run the World," Girls5Eva), costume designer Arianne Phillips, scenic and media designers Christine Jones (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Brett Banakis (The Cher Show), lighting designer Paule Constable, and sound designer Nevin Steinberg (Hadestown, Hamilton). Orchestrations were penned by Giles Martin.

The project is being produced by Kevin McCollum and Rocket Entertainment/David Furnish.
