SCR founding artist Richard Doyle is Robert, the mentally strained math genius whose troubles impact his sensitive daughter, Catherine. The Auburn play is a comedy, a mystery, a family drama and a romance. Auburn won both the 2001 Tony for Best Play and the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Proof. The Broadway production, currently featuring filmdom's Anne Heche and Len Cariou, will close at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Jan. 5. The four-actor cast also includes Malaparte Theatre Company founding member James Waterston as Hal, a math student of Robert's at the University of Chicago and a would-be suitor to Catherine, and Christina Haag (Avow, SCR's Amy's View) as Catherine's brittle New York sister, Claire.
