News Emily Cara Portune and Anthony Crouchelli Will Star in NJ Production of The Little Mermaid The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey, will open its 2014-15 season with Disney's The Little Mermaid Oct. 3-26. Emily Cara Portune and Anthony Crouchelli will star.

Directed by Growing Stage executive director Stephen L. Fredericks, the cast features Portune as Ariel, Crouchelli as Prince Eric, Maggie Graham as Ursula, PJ Schweizer as Scuttle, Wayne Hu as King Triton and Jenna Morris, Lyndsey Brown and Nikole Rizzo as Mersisters.

The Little Mermaid, according to Growing Stage, "takes place in a magical kingdom under the sea, where the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to live in the world above. It's a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages."

The Little Mermaid is based on the Hans Christian Anderson story and the Disney film produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker and written and directed by Musker and Ron Clements.

The musical features music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Ashman and Glenn Slater and a book by Doug Wright.

Other members of the creative team include musical director Laura Petrie and choreographer Jillian Petrie.  The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey is located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, NJ.
