Thomas Cote directs the musical, which began performances Oct. 28, 2008, and officially opened Jan. 14, 2009. Sessions features book, music and lyrics by Albert Tapper, who also penned Imperfect Chemistry and From Where I Stand. Emmy nominee Newman joins a company that includes Tony nominee Liz Larsen (The Most Happy Fella, The Rocky Horror Show), Ken Jennings (Sweeney Todd, Side Show), Maya Days (Aida), Bertilla Baker (Titanic), Al Bundonis (Whistle Down The Wind), Scott Richard Foster (Brooklyn the Musical), Kelli Maguire (Swingtime Canteen) and Sky Seals (Much Ado About Nothing).

Sessions, according to production notes, "centers around Dr. Peter Peterson, an affluent New York therapist who discovers his own life is as much in need of examination as those of his patients. Among those causing Dr. Peterson angst are the bickering Murphys, the loner George, the aptly named Sunshine, the troubled Mary, the millionaire Baxter, and Dylan who really believes he is THAT (Bob) Dylan. On top of it all is Leila, the femme fatale with eyes...and long, long legs...for Dr. Peterson."

Penny Ayn Mass and James Horvath choreograph, with musical direction by Steven Gross. The design team includes John McDermott (scenic design), Michele Pasqua (costume design), Brant Thomas Murray (lighting design) and Josh Liebert (sound design).

In addition to his work on "Guiding Light," Newman has appeared onstage in The Robber Bridegroom, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, The Fantasticks, Veronica's Room, Titus Andronicus, The Owl and the Pussycat, Medea, Quiet on the Set and The Rainmaker.

The Algonquin Theater is located in Manhattan at 123 East 24th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues. Tickets, priced $50, are available by visiting www.smarttix.com or by calling (212) 868-4444.
