A slew of Broadway veterans and Hollywood stars are set to kick off Encores! Off-Center season at New York City Center June 26 when Working begins performances.

Andréa Burns, Mateo Ferro, David Garrison, Helen Hunt, Christopher Jackson, Javier Muñoz, and Tracie Thoms will play American workers as they strive to make a living in a series of vignettes across the 20th century.

Daniel Ching, Tilly Evans-Krueger, Tessa Grady, and Malik Shabazz Kitchen round out the cast, directed by Encores! Off-Center Artistic Director Anne Kauffman. Alvin Hough, Jr. provides music direction with Avihai Haham choreographing.

Based on Studs Terkel’s book of the same name, Working was originally adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso. Susan Birkenhead, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers, and James Taylor have all contributed music and lyrics to the score over the years.

The show originally opened on Broadway in 1978 starring Patti Lupone and ran for a total of 36 performances. Since then, it’s undergone several revisions.

Performances for the Encores! Off-Center Working will run through June 29. The season continues July 10 at New York City Center with Promenade, featuring Bonnie Milligan and Eddie Cooper.
