News Eric Jordan Young's Sammy & Me Begins Atlanta Run Oct. 1 Sammy & Me, Eric Jordan Young's solo show about late entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr., begins performances Oct. 1 at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.

Young, who last appeared on Broadway in the revival of Ragtime, co-authored the biographical musical with Wendy Dann. The show was seen in upstate New York, and in a Manhattan staged reading presentation. Dann directs the production that officially opens Oct. 6 on the Hertz Stage.

Sammy & Me incorporates Young's own obsession with the acclaimed song and dance man, as he recounts Davis' life from the Chitlin Circuit to his days as a member of the Rat Pack and a Las Vegas headliner. It also explores Davis' struggle to transcend race as an American performer.

The musical incorporates numerous hits including "Where or When," "Smile," "Mr. Bojangles" and "Candy Man."

Sammy & Me first premiered in a 2006 co-production between Ithaca's Hangar Theatre and MusicalFare Theatre in Buffalo, under Dann's direction. Original creative team members including choreographer Gerry McIntyre, musical director/arranger Tommy James, costume designer Toni-Leslie James and sound designer Joanna Staub repeat their work for the Atlanta bow.

The design team also includes Brian Sidney Bembridge (set designer) and Marcus Doshi (lighting designer). Young also appeared on Broadway in the original cast of Ragtime, as well as Chicago, Seussical: The Musical and The Look of Love. His Off-Broadway credits include Neighbors and Dessa Rose.
