Classic Arts News Ethan Stiefel to Miss ABT's Spring Season Ethan Stiefel, the star principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre, will miss ABT's spring season at the Metropolitan Opera, the company announced yesterday.
Stiefel has injuries to both knees, according to a press release, and will undergo surgery. He will need four to six months to recover, but expects to be ready for ABT's fall season at New York City Center.

Last month, knee problems forced Stiefel to drop out of a scheduled performance with Benjamin Millepied & Company, the company led by the New York City Ballet principal dancer, at New York's Joyce Theater.

He also recently resigned his post as artistic director of California's Ballet Pacifica, but officials of that company told reporters that the resignation was unrelated to his injuries.

ABT's spring season runs May 22-July 15, and will feature the company premieres of James Kudelka's Cinderella and John Cranko's Jeu de cartes.
