EXCLUSIVE: Annie Lennox Sings Iconic "Summertime" in PBS Special (Video) | Playbill

News EXCLUSIVE: Annie Lennox Sings Iconic "Summertime" in PBS Special (Video) Known as a pop and rock vocalist, Annie Lennox stepped outside of her comfort zone with her 2014 release "Nostalgia." The album features a dozen cuts selected from the Great American Songbook — tunes from George Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Billie Holliday populate the track listing. Lennox brings the songs alive with unique interpretations and a new sense of intimacy.

The success of the album (it was Grammy-nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album) inspired "Annie Lennox: Nostalgia Live in Concert," a "Great Performances" special to air on PBS April 3 at 10:00 PM.

Taped live in January at Los Angeles' Orpheum Theatre, the hour-long performance features 10 tracks from the album including "Georgia on My Mind," "Strange Fruit," "God Bless the Child" and "Mood Indigo." Fans of her days with Eurythmics and her earlier solo efforts will no doubt appreciate the now-classic Lennox tunes that she performs in the show's encore.

In this exclusive video peek at "Nostalgia Live in Concert," Lennox sings the iconic "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess.
