Video Exclusive: Hear a Song From the Musical Adaptation of The Book Thief Markus Zusak’s best-selling novel is getting the musical treatment from the creators of Between the Lines.

School of Rock’s Isabella Russo and Luca Padovan took to the stage at the 2018 iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta to perform a song from The Book Thief, a new musical adaptation of Markus Zusak’s best-selling novel. Watch the two young stars perform the song in the video above.

The Book Thief musical is now in development. The new work features songs by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Andersen and a book by Timothy Allen McDonald, the creative team behind the new musical Between the Lines, a musical adaptation of Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer’s best-selling book of the same name. Author Picoult is also co-writing the book to The Book Thief musical.

Set during World War II, The Book Thief is about a German girl who steals books that are being destroyed by the Nazi regime.

Between the Lines had its world premiere at Kansas City Repertory Theatre with Tony Award-winning producer Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots) attached. The new musical was billed as “Broadway-aspiring,” but news of a New York City transfer has not yet been announced.
