Monstersongs, the latest project from The Lightning Thief composer Rob Rokicki, blends graphic novel with a musical theatre rock album. Rokicki teamed up with illustrator Dave O’Neill to put a new spin on classic monster archetypes by setting them as musical theatre numbers written from the monsters’ point of view.

A roster of Broadway favorites perform on the Monstersongs album, which was released October 20 from Broadway Records. A companion graphic novel can also be purchased at monstersongs.net.

In the video above, Dear Evan Hansen’s Will Roland performs “The Plans” (written for Igor from Frankenstein) in the exclusive video from the Monstersongs album release concert.

The Monstersongs album features Tony nominee Megan Hilty (Smash, Noises Off), Jelani Alladin (Frozen), Julia Murney (Wicked, Lennon), Katrina Rose Dideriksen (Hairspray), Cheryl Freeman, Molly Hager (Waitress), F. Michael Haynie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Joe Iconis, Lauren Marcus, Jeremy Morse (Waitress), Luca Padovan (Newsies), Rokicki, Tyce, Jason SweetTooth Williams, Emma Gannon-Salomon, Sami Griffith, and Mackenzie Jones. (Roland does not appear on the album.)

Monstersongs is produced by Rokicki, and executive produced by Grammy Award winner Van Dean.
